About WaterReady

An independent tool for working out how much water your household actually needs to have ready — for a drought, a mains supply interruption, or any other reason your tap might stop working.

What this is

WaterReady.co.uk is a free calculator that personalises official UK water-planning figures to your own household — how many people, any babies, pets, medical needs, and how many days you want to plan for — and shows you exactly how much water that adds up to, and how far off you currently are.

Where the numbers come from

The calculator's baseline figures are drawn from published UK Government guidance (the Prepare campaign's advice on water supply interruptions) and, for pregnancy and breastfeeding adjustments, the European Food Safety Authority's Scientific Opinion on Dietary Reference Values for Water. Each figure used in the calculator links back to its source — see the Official sources section on the calculator page.

WaterReady is independent. It is not operated or endorsed by the UK Government, any water company, or any emergency service. It applies published guidance to your household — it doesn't replace advice from your water supplier, local authority, GP, vet, or care team, and it's not a substitute for following official instructions during a live emergency.
